- Nature of Work: Full-time, experimental research
- Responsibilities:
- Setting up and maintaining an advanced experimental lab
- Conducting ion trap-based quantum computing experiments
- Working on electron and positron trapping studies
- Engaging in national and international research collaborations
- Educational Qualification:
M.Sc. in Physics. - Skills and Experience:
- Enthusiasm in doing experiments in Physics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Good communication skills for scientific documentation and presentations.
- Desirable but not necessary Attributes:
- Experience or strong interest in quantum computing, ion optics, and related simulations (using tools like COMSOL, Simion, or equivalent).
- Prior exposure to experimental setups, vacuum systems, lasers, and spectroscopy will be an advantage.
- Proficiency in any of programming languages (C++, Python, or MATLAB) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with ion traps (Paul traps, Penning traps, etc.)
Research Areas:
- Quantum Computing with Ion Traps:
The student will work on setting up an ion trap for Quantum Computing work. Work will involve the preliminary design, fabrication, and characterisation of ion trap-based quantum processors. In the first year calcium ions would be trapped. - Electron-Positron Research:
Contribute to experimental work on trapping and studying electron-positron interactions. This research has applications in antimatter studies and precision measurements in atomic physics. Work will involve setting up UHV systems and trapping electrons in the first year.
Duration of the Position:
Initial appointment for 1 year (extendable based on performance and project requirements). Future possibility for PhD registration may open up.
Stipend:
A minimum of 25 thousand Rupees or more as per experience.
